Winterlicious What?!?
dre: After boycotting Winterlicious for years, I was "forced" back into one when Mike met up with his Queen's friends for dinner downtown. The restaurant is called Veritas Local Fare and the chef is Food Network's Brad Long. You might have seen him on Restaurant Makeover.
I started with the Maple & Herb Braised Ontario Texel Lamb Ribs on Gin Braised Savoy Cabbage Slaw. The menu said ribs but there was only one rib. One very fatty rib. After I picked out all the fat, there was about 60% of meat left. Is fat a delicacy? Did I waste it by not eating it? In any case, the meat was very tender, and not gamey.
Mike had the Aged Cheddar Grilled Cheese Stuffed with Braised Berkshire Pork Shoulder. To our surprise, it came out like a grilled cheese sandwich on bread covered with garlic butter. Very tasty, according to Mike.
I ate the North Woods Elk 'Shepherds' Pie with Smoked Tomato Catsup. The meat again wasn't gamey, but I found the dish to be too salty for my liking.
Mike had the Roasted Chanteclare Rouge Chicken on Rosemary Bread Puffing and Browned Beurre Marinated Beets. The chicken was pretty good and I liked the sauce.
For dessert, we had a Maple Walnut cheesecake and a Pumpkin Creme Brulee. Both were delicious.
It was a very filling meal especially since we pre-ate at Wendy's beforehand.
