Nelson @ Shanghai Bund: Shanghai food is like comfort food for me. The water filled dumplings were ok here (I've had better), but the meat appetizer dish was really good. The chicken was good, but the highlight here is the fish. It has a novel taste to me at least, with the fish being very firm with a salty sweet taste.

The next dish, a sweet and sour fish has been posted here before, but the presentation still impresses me. The deep fried fish with the toppings and the sweet sauce makes this a crowd pleaser. Lastly we had a moo shoo pork with the wraps, which is another one of my favourite dishes. This was an excellent meal and I recommend this restaurant.

  • Where is this place? Mike and I always enjoy Shanghai food... our favourite is the spicy beef noodle soup with the pulled noodles.

    What is the last dish?are those noodles?...

  • This place is somewhere in the east end, I forget where exactly. Make sure you don't mix up shanghai food with sichuan food. The "Shanghai" food restaurant that you found in Mississauga (that you posted earlier on Jan 12 2008) is actually sichuan food (I think).

  • I think you're right... xiao long bao and that egg white broccoli dish are Shanghainese, but dan dan noodles and those spicy beef noodles i think is Szechuan... Are those provinces close to each other? The Shanghai restaurant we go to seems to serve a bit of both...

  • I believe they are on opposite side of China! I do think they serve a bit of both, because xiao long bao and the broccoli are more northern types of food. And I think that restaurant bills itself as a sichuan restuarant (I recognize the table cloth)

  • I went to the Red Lotus restaurant this weekend. The Dan Dan noodles are actually called sichuan dan dan noodles in chinese. They also changed their menu and increased the prices :(
