Anniversary Dinner at Brux House

Restaurant: Brux_House Hamilton

dre: For our 9th anniversary, Mike and I took a day off and went hiking in Waterdown. We did about 16 km of the Bruce Trail from one end of the town to the other, which took around 5 hours? It was the first time Mike really did something so long and physical since his illness, but I'm so proud that he did it!

For dinner, we met up with one of our good friends who lived in Hamilton and went to a gastro pub called Brux House. Our friends are quite the foodies, so we let them do all the ordering and they ordered a lot of appetizers!

We started with these House Made Tater Tots. I was expecting something deep fried like McCains or something, but these were filled with nacho cheese, smothered with taco sauce and topped with pickled jalapenos. These were delicious!

The next appetizer was Grilled Octopus. These were okay as I found it much tougher than squid.
This was the Pastrami Smoked Salmon - beet & horseradish condiment, creme fraiche chopped egg, pumpernickel. I tried half of one, but since I'm not a smoked salmon fan, i can't really comment.
When we ordered tater tots and fries, I thought it was redundant, but since the tater tots was not what I was expecting, this were a welcomed addition. The fries were served with lemon aioli and curry ketchup. They were amazingly delicious!!!
The waiter really recommended these Pretzel Sticks. They were so soft and fresh. The salt pieces made it so yummy too.
After all those appies, we still had our main courses. I had the Fisherman's Pie - cod, bay scallop, shrimp, leek & celery, vermouth cream, potato puree, buttered green beans & carrots. It was extremely heavy, and I only finished about a quarter of it.
Mike had the Pork Schnitzel - green garlic spaetzle, charred cabbage, spiced tomato jam, gherkin gravy. I tried some, and it was very juicy and flavourful.
After all that food, we still shared a dessert. I can't remember what it was called, and the menu online doesn't seem to match my picture. I remember there was a chocolate ganache with some ice cream and biscotti around the plate.

It was an awesome meal with great company! They had a great beer selection as well with lots of local craft beers on tap.
