Niagara-on-the-Lake Sip and Sizzle

Restaurant: none

dre: We were given a pair of passes from Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake to take part of this Sip and Sizzle event that happened in May. For $45, you can go to all the participating wineries every weekend in May to sample their wine and food pairings. We loaded our bikes and the kids, and made our way to that region on one of those May Saturdays. It was a beautiful weekend and the girls enjoyed it as well. We made it out to six wineries.

The first winery was Reif Estate. They featured their 2015 River Road Cabernet paired with a grilled Chivap topped with roasted red pepper relish and quick pickled sweet onion. We liked this wine the best, and ended up coming back to purchase a bottle.

This is from Inniskillin - 2013 Reserve Shiraz Cabernet paired with a grilled chicken taco with chipotle and avocado.
On the left was Riverview Cellars - 2015 Bianco Riesling Gewürztraminer paired with a grilled chicken taco topped with mango Bianco salsa. I really enjoyed the taco.

On the right was Peller Estates - 2015 Private Reserve Gamay Noir paired with a cabernet wild boar sausage on a bun, Quebec maple mustard, fried chili shallots, mustard seedlings. The girls got their own grape juice here.

The Two Sisters Vineyards was very impressive, but the experience felt a little cold. It was like being in a large empty castle with stiff servants. We had their 2016 Sauvignon Blanc paired with a cod potato fritter with a grilled zucchini, tomato and basil salad.
The last picture is from Lailey - 2012 Pinot Noir, served chilled paired with a cherry cheesecake flambé. The cheesecake was not flambe... and extremely underwhelming.

All in all, we enjoyed going to the different wineries via biking. I wouldn't say the food was that great, but it was nice to try the different wines and I found a new favourite!
