Joey at Sherway

Restaurant: Etobicoke Joey

Nelson @JOEYRestaurants: Sherway renovated a few years back and added more food options. One of these you can see from the road and it seems to have a nice patio. Great spot in the summer, although the view is mostly just parking lot. Another note before we get to the food is that the waitstaff is pretty attractive. Beside us were a table of semi-attractive young ladies and their waitress talked to them and pretty much offered them jobs if they wanted any. Turns out a few were already waitresses elsewhere. So I guess that is the kind of offers you get if you are attractive?

This was my paternity leave so we were here for lunch and I ordered a steak frites ($22.5) with a CAB PRIME sirloin, parsley butter, rocket green and fries. The steak was tiny and cooked to almost medium, but at least the thickness of the steak saved it. I did like the butter on top and the shoestring fries were done as appropriate for this classic dish. A bit of balsamic on the arugula somehow made it rocket? Anyway, a little more meat would be nice to complement these great fries.

Kitty had the Baja fish tacos ($15.75) with lightly breaded shrimp and fish, white corn tortilla, Valentina's, guacamole, cheddar cheese and the menu specifically says there are no fries here. Not a lot of fish, but including shrmp was a neat twist. Otherwise the tacos tasted fresh with the avocado and cheese as ingredients that stood out. The sauce is buffalo sauce-like and I just learned that is a hot sauce from Mexico called Valentina's (which is on the menu, duh). Pretty good tacos.
