Red Lobster

Restaurant: Etobicoke Red_Lobster

Nelson @redlobster: Only here because someone gifted us a gift card, I find that everything here tastes deep fried and buttery. I suppose that can be a good thing, but then why bother eating seafood if you don't like the seafood taste? Anyway, we tried to avoid falling into this trap.

We of course start with the biscuits. Definitely unhealthy and buttery, but for some reason not as good as I remembered. Maybe it has less butter than before, but it still had a lot of oil. It came out nice and hot though. Still tasty.

We had salads to start our meal. I liked how the Caesar had nice chunks of cheese on top.
The garden salad is more typical.
We found a coupon online while waiting for our order so we tried an appetizer of island jumbo coconut shrimp which is described as hand-dipped in their signature batter then tossed in coconut and fried golden brown. Served with pina colada sauce ($10.99). These were good, but some of the shrimp were really small and extremely flattened to get more surface area to batter. I liked the pina colada sauce with pineapple chunks. Plus they included some real pineapple which was surprisingly ripe! Nice!
To avoid deep fried seafood for my main, I tried the fire-grilled lobster, shrimp and salmon described as a maritime lobster tail, jumbo shrimp skewer and fresh Atlantic salmon, fire-grilled and finished with brown butter. Served over green beans and baby gold potatoes ($29.99). I like seafood prepared this way much better than battered and deep fried. The seafood flavours are much better preserved yet has a bit of smokiness. Better than most dishes I've had at Red Lobster, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Kitty tried the Bar Harbour Lobster Bake with petite Maritime lobster tails, split and roasted with shrimp, sea scallops and mussels served over linguini in a garlic and white wine broth ($30.49). As you can see from the picture, there is quite a lot of seafood (except only three pieces of scallop). But what is hard to tell from the picture alone is that there is a lot of butter in everything. And then there is clarified butter too. Too much butter. Still, it was a nice amount of seafood and we took some leftovers home and cooked it with more pasta to try to dilute the butter the next day.

As we were leaving we realized that we failed to use the gift card! EPIC FAIL! So that means we'll have to come back some other time!
