Spoon & Fork
Nelson: Spoon and Fork is now a big chain featuring AYCE Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine. We checked them out this location because they are so close to where we live and it would be nice to find a goto thai restaurant nearby, but we discovered that this location does not serve AYCE and specializes in just Thai and Viet cuisine.
I tried the Pad Phed Talay (spicy seafood for $17) with tiger shrimp, scallops, mussels, squid, and fish cake in Thai sauce with eggplant, bamboo shoots, long beans, sweet bell peppers and basil. It was a nicely spicy and I enjoyed the bamboo shoots. The seafood itself was mediocre though, but at least it wasn't overcooked. Tasted almost Chinese in flavour alongside the rice.
Gotta baseline a new restaurant so Kitty tried the Bangkok Street Styel Pad Thai ($11) with Thai rice noodles stir fried with egg, tofu, bean sprouts and chives in sweet & sour tamarind sauce, palm sugar and lime juice, topped with dry chilli and garnished with bean sprouts and lime. We had the chicken. The noodles were a bit undercooked, but decently lime flavoured. Overall was ok flavour.
Reading my notes there was nothing wrong with the food, but I remember leaving there disappointed and not wanting to go back again. So for now Green Mango remains my goto close Thai restaurant. Since there as nothing wrong with the food (but nothing good either) maybe I should give it another shot.
