Hash House A GoGo
Nelson @hashhousesd: One of the top rated in Orlando, everyone online says to order the chicken and waffles. We did and it was incredible to the point that this is the best Chicken & Waffles I have ever had.
First, look at how huge that pile of Sage Fried Chicken & Waffles. It is only described as two sage fried chicken breasts with hardwood smoked bacon waffle tower, hot maple reduction and fried leeks ($16.95). Three huge waffles underneath two gigantic breaded pieces of chicken. The chicken was crispy on the outside and very moist on the inside. The batter was KFC like but a little less oily and that was a good thing. The syrup that it comes served with goes perfectly with everything including the chicken. Now the waffles - you can see the bacon poking out. I couldn't believe that there was a layer of bacon INSIDE the waffles. There's another picture at the end for a even better look. Amazing.
All Blue Crab Cakes - Mashed market butternut squash, veggies, bar b'que & chili mayo drizzle ($21.95). Hard to tell from the picture, but these crab cakes had a lot of real crab inside accenting the flavours in this delicious cake. The hash in the middle was extraordinary with a sweetness perhaps from yam coming through inside beyond the crisped up exterior. I have no idea how they made this taste so good, but everything on this plate was tasty. (note the American beer in the background)
This is the Stuffed HH Meatload with fresh spinach, roasted red peppers, mozzarella cheese, marsala cream sauce & griddled mash potatoes ($16.95). This one wasn't as good as the others with the marsala sauce tasting a bit like a cross between hollaindaise and Cracker Barrel's gravy. The mashed potatoes had a layer of cheese on top. Usually I really like meatloafs and although this one was ok, I've had better.
These came out later during the meal when we were stuffed and it would have been best if they came out first because we were starving when we first arrived. Then all the food, because it is made from scratch to order took what felt like a really long time to come out. These biscuits were huge and pretty moist on the inside. I think it helps that they were freshly baked, making them extra delicious.
As promised, the inside of the waffles has a gigantic sheet of bacon. How do they make bacon in sheets? And how do they get it in the middle of the waffle? I don't know, but what a great idea. Delicious. I would come back just for the bacony waffles. Yum!
