Nelson: I feel Toronto needs more good Southern BBQ restaurants and luckily Lou Dawg's serves that need in downtown Toronto.
Let's start with the 3 meat slider sampler ($9.95) with Brisket, pork & chicken sliders with a sample of potato salad & coleslaw. The bread is really good for these sliders, but I found that I could have used a little more sauce. The pork was my favourite. The potato salad I wasn't crazy about, but the cole slaw was really good especially because I liked the addition of raisins.
|These are the fresh cut sweet potato fries ($4.99) and I have never seen them cut so thickly. They are tapered at the ends though that allow for a crispy bit along with a meaty middle. I really liked these and the extra salt helps too.|
|This is the Lou's Loaded Nachos with tortilla chips smothered with blackbean corn salad and cheese curds with sour cream, jalapeno and salsa. We had the pulled pork version ($12.95). I don't like the blackean corn salad that much so it put a bit of a damper on this dish.|
|Last, but not least is the slow smoked wings ($9.95). This is one pound of jumbo wings right from the farm that is slow cooked for 2 hours and coated with their special dry rub seasoning that they say will "ensure that you'll completely forget about breasts). I'm liking dry rubs on wings more and more and these are excellent because they are so flavourful. Yum!|
