Biaggis

Restaurant: Biaggis Chicago

dre in suburban Chicago: On our first night in Chicago (suburbs), we went to our favourite Italian restaurant, Biaggis. We like how there is free wi-fi available to the patrons! Of course, you shouldn't really be on your phone during dinner anyway, but it's nice for people dining on their own... Business travellers, perhaps?

We always enjoy the bread. I think I eat too much of it before dinner. I especially enjoy the focaccia bread.

We shared the Antipasti Trio, which consisted of calamari, stuffed mushrooms with sausage, and bruschetta with boccaccini balls. The mushrooms were really good!

Mike tried the Grilled Chicken Pietro - Grilled chicken breast topped with a homemade honey mustard sauce with balsamic vinegar and rosemary. Served with sautéed portabello mushrooms and seasonal vegetables.

This dish was really sour, and the vinegar really overpowered the taste in the sauce. We weren't fans of the sauce.

My uncle had the Ziti al Forno - Savory shrimp and chicken baked in a lobster-cream sauce with Italian cured bacon, caramelized onions and our Italian cheese blend.

My aunt had the North Atlantic Cod - Fillet of moist and flaky North Atlantic cod seasoned with herbs and seared on iron. Served over a bed of whipped cauliflower and sautéed spinach and drizzled with a lemon caper vinaigrette.

My mom tried the Shrimp and Crab Cannelloni - Spinach pasta filled with shrimp, crab meat, ricotta cheese and spinach. Baked in a rich lobster-tomato cream sauce.

My dad had the Potato-Parmesan Crusted Tilapia - Tender fillet of tilapia lightly pan-sautéed with a potato-Parmesan crust and lemon-basil butter sauce. Served with a medley of sautéed vegetables.

Like always, I had the Penne Sardi - Penne pasta tossed with grilled chicken, wild mushrooms, caramelized onions and a sun-dried tomato cream sauce. Finished in the oven with a topping of crispy garlic and oregano seasoned breadcrumbs.

It usually doesn't disappoint, but this time, it wasn't that great. Perhaps it was more salty than I remembered. Anyway, I probably will not get this again... maybe I am getting sick of it.

All in all, it was a very filling meal, and I still really like this restaurant!
