Fancy Hotpot/Grill in Taipei (1 of 2)
Nelson @ Ximending: This is a high end hot pot restaurant called Master in English and 燒匠 in Chinese, that also happens to have a grill AND serves sushi/sahsimi. All of the above is AYCE. Yes, you can have it all.
As you can see, the grill is different from the typical Korean BBQ ones in that there are large spacing for the food to fall through. The plus side is that it doesn't get as dirty. Also note the vents in the side, which is the preferred method to avoid infecting your clothes with smell. You can see some scallop, fish and sausage on this grill.
This is a plate of scallop and each one had a big pipet blob butter. You can hear it as it cooks and it made this dish extra tasty. Have to be careful not to overcook it though!
Fish. Whole Fish. Covered in salt. I think we made one of these and it turned out to be very boney.
Some lamb chops and tendon.
Beef ribs and more meat (I think pork or gourmet ox tongue).
Everyone had the choice of 1 special item to choose from a list of eight. This is the "top cattle". Looks very marbled, just like the beef found in Japan.
Another special item, Kitty ordered some giant scallop.
I think this is the special item of thick cut beef short rib.
Here are some of the sushi selection here. The convenience of having a hot pot/grill location is not needing chefs, but someone has to be back there making this.
My special item was a soft shelled crab. It had a lot of sauce, but it was good and I enjoyed it. So filling though! The other special items were giant sea prawns, sea urchin sushi and angel shrimps (not pictured, not ordered)
Sashimi too. Why not, right?
AYCE and AYCD. Pour your own beer. I can see this getting abused in North America and that is why it isn't found anywhere here.
Tomorrow will include the hotpot items and desserts! Yes, this is only half the meal....you can have it all!
