Casey's Potato Tornados
dre @ Trinity Commons: We headed for Casey's because I haven't been there in awhile. They've changed their menus since the last time I was there and the prices also went up a lot.
We started with some drinks. I tried the Berry Boost Smoothie - Wild blueberry, organic açai, boysenberry, blackberry, banana, pear and apple juices blended with raspberry purée and vanilla low-fat yogurt. On paper it sounded delicious, but in reality, there was this really odd aftertaste, maybe it was aspartame. Mike got a Stella.
Tornado Potatoes - deep-fried potato ribbons. Seasoned with sea salt, drizzled with Smokin’ Cajun dip. We thought these would be more like potato strips, but they turned out to be like chips. Too bad, we were trying to go the healthy route, and these were incredibly oily.
Turkey Burger - Bacon, guacamole, red onions, tomato, dill pickle and lettuce. This was really dry.
Piri Piri Chicken Sandwich - Grilled chicken marinated in Piri Piri sauce topped with Swiss cheese, roasted red peppers, sautéed mushrooms and lemon rapini on a grilled Portuguese bun. This sandwich was pretty tasty. I'm not sure what makes the bun a special Portuguese bun.
I really wanted something sweet after my dry burger, and originally wanted to try the Peanut Butter Brownie Sundae, but they didn't have any. So I settled for this Strawberry Shortcake and it wasn't that tasty. The cake tasted a little bit stale and there was too much whipped cream for my liking.
This place was disappointing and definitely not one of my favourite chains.
