Ocean Sushi - Where they put nuts in sushi rolls!
Restaurant: Hawaii Ocean_Sushi
Nelson @ Hilo: Not that many Sushi places in Hawaii surprisingly, but we found this place open pretty late. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but the prices are good.
Since I thought the tuna was a local specialty I ordered the 7 piece Ahi Sashimi ($6.95). Definitely not frozen and you can taste the difference.
The first roll pictured here is the Hiroshima, Anago, avocado, imitation crab and asparagus wrapped in a tofu skin. It was decent and to kick up the taste they added a bit tonkatsu on top.
The next roll is the best tasting one, because it has nuts! It's the Big Island: Ahi, avocado, macadamia nuts and spicy/special mayo. It's impossible to see the nuts, but it was surprisingly good adding a bit of crunch and taste to an otherwise plain roll. Something so simple as nuts takes this roll to new heights.
The last roll we tried is the Hilo: Mahi tempura, imitation crab, avocado and spicy/special mayo. This one was ok with cooked fish a little strange in this one.
Overall, just a little too much rice and not enough fish, but the prices and creativity make up for it.
