Kim-Bo Viet Thai Restaurant
Nelson @ Markham: Came here and we surprisingly didn't order a bunch of pho or bun because they have a house special: Fish in 7 dishes for 2 persons.
To start, a mango fish salad. They used fish sauce, but to me it tasted a little strange. Next is a sweet & sour fish soup, which I didn't like at all. Too sour and tasted like rotting fish to me. Curry Fish with Vermicelli, this tasted good, but not a fan of vermicilli so didn't like this dish overall. Not a good start.
Their cracker with fish was inventive and not bad. Their BBQ fish cold rolls and Fish Spring Rolls were absolutely delicious, perhaps their best dish by far. #7 fish dish was the fried fish (2nd last pic) and these were good as well as it came out fresh from the deep fryer. Only two good dishes out of 7 on the fish menu. Pretty disappointing if they are specializing in this and advertising it as such.
Additional dishes we tried were Pad Thai Fried with chicken that wasn't very good. Same with the pineapple fried rice (egg, chicken, shrimp, pineapple, cashew nut, mixed vegetable and green onion). The chicken steak on rice is simple, but I didn't try any. Lastly, the Orange Cashew Nut Shrimp was pretty good.
Overall a disappointing meal. Maybe this is why I never venture too far from pho, bun and banh trang at viet/thai restaurants.
