Fionn MacCools In Brampton
Restaurant: Brampton Fionn_MacCools
dre @ Hurontario & Ray Lawson: I think this pub got franchised as I noticed there were more and more locations all over the GTA. In this particular Brampton location, it used to be an East Side Mario's, now converted into a Fionn MacCool pub. It was very empty when we dropped by for lunch. It was a Saturday afternoon and later in the day, around 1:30pm. I imagine they get a bit more customers during the week with all the businesses around that area.
We had a couple of drinks. I had a pineapple juice and Mike had a Stiegl Radler, which is a very light fruity beer. It's only 2.5% or something like that. Very Mike friendly.
We started with Mini Yorkshire Puddings - Filled with chicken and onions and simmered in a medium-spiced curry sauce, topped with crispy fried onions. These were really cute, and very tasty! The curry was really good.
Mike tried the Guinness Steak and Mushroom Boxty - A seasoned potato pancake filled with tender beef and mushrooms braised in Guinness and drizzled with sour cream. When we asked the waitress what a boxty was, she tried to explain that it's a potato pancake. I expected it to be more stringy, like hashbrowns, but what came out was not what I expected at all. I didn't taste too much potato. It actually tasted more doughy.
I tried the chicken pot pie. This was not one of my favourites as the cream sauce was very heavy. I didn't even finish it!
If I'm ever in the area for a second visit, I'll try the Shepherd's pie next time!
