Southern Accent

Restaurant: Southern_Accent Toronto

dre @ Bloor & Bathurst: I bought a Groupon for Southern Accent. I came here a couple years ago for Winterlicious, and remembered really liking the place. I remember getting a jambalaya last time and it was delicious, so I was excited that I got a Groupon for it.

The restaurant is located in an old house that was retrofitted to be a restaurant, so there were lots of different rooms and small hallways to navigate around. I really liked the bread and hummus that was served. The hummus was really good and we asked for more bread and hummus.

I got the Black Angus Beef Brisket - slowed cooked in maple bourbon chipotle BBQ sauce and dark lager served with mashed potatoes and collard greens. While the sauce was delicious, I can't say I was a fan of the meat. It was dry. I think I prefer beef brisket to be cooked the Chinese way.

Mike got the Toulouse Street Steak - Blackened, grilled high-river New York triple-A strip steak with andouille red pepper butter sauce, served with vegetables. The steak was also nothing too special, but I found it expensive for what you can get similarly at The Keg or a real steak house. I'm always iffy about trying steaks at non-steakhouses.

All in all, I wouldn't say the food was that great. Maybe they only do really well with their signature jambalaya dish.
