Snacking Around in Peru
dre in Peru: This is the last post for Peru! During the trip, but mostly near the end, we went to several places for an afternoon coffee or snack. Peru has a lot of coffee plantations, but I surprisingly didn't drink much coffee during the trip, mostly tea. So I decided to try this Cusco Coffee Company, which looks suspiciously similar to the Starbucks logo. This was a great cup of coffee and yummy cookies to go along with it.
We went to a fast food place called Bembo's, which is similar to McDonald's. Upstairs, there's a "McCafe" like coffee area, so I ordered the cappuccino and chocolate chip cake afternoon special. This satisfied a big chocolate craving we had after visiting the chocolate factory. The cappuccino was really good too.
Later in the trip, we went to another Bembo's to get some ice cream sundaes. Mike got the strawberry one and I ate the chocolate dipped one.
We went to a restaurant that offered us drink specials and free nachos. The nachos were tiny and devoured pretty quickly between the 5 of us.
At the airport, we got a chicken empanada as breakfast along with some freshly squeezed orange juice and freshly ground coffee. The empanada was a little disappointing, not to mention overpriced.
Last, and sadly the least favourite, we had to buy something from the only McDonald's we encountered on this trip. We bought a highly overpriced Oreo McFlurry. The ice cream tasted a little weird, and all they did was put Oreo Cookie crumbs on top of the small ice cream cup without stirring it! We were disappointed from our McDonald's experience in Peru. I was looking for some Peruvian burger, but there wasn't anything out of the ordinary than the items we have at home.
All in all, it was a great food experience in Peru and I'm glad I got to try everything!
