Royal Caribbean Saturday Dinner
Restaurant: Royal_Caribbean
Nelson @ Freedom of the Seas:
Moroccan-spiced Chicken Salad: Atop a green bean and raisin cake, sliced grilled eggplants and crisp arugula. This chicken was excellent. I don't know what these spices were, but whatever it is, it was tasty. I will have to find this somewhere else and try it.
Spinach Dip: Warm and creamy, this spinach dip is classic comfort food at its best. Served with crispy tortilla chips. I remember eating every last bit of the dip. Hard to go wrong with something so fatty.
Shrimp Cocktail: Served chilled with spicy-sweet Royal cocktail sauce. Pretty ho-hum.
Onion Soup: Caramelized onions are simmered in rich beef broth. Full of flavour, each serving is finished with a Gruyère toast. I was hoping for the cheese crust on top, but I guess they don't do it. Tasty a bit salty as almost all onion soups are to me.
Chilled Raspberry and pineapple soup: A unique combination of sweet, fresh berries blended with pineapple. Once again, this stuff is like a smoothie and we went upstairs to get more in a cup. So refreshing.
Grilled NY Strip Steak: With a tomato confit stuffed portabella mushroom, fresh green beans, mashed potato and your choice of Bearnaise sauce or gorgonzola butter. I picked the bearnaise sauce, but I think I should have went for the gorgonzola butter. The steak was a little dry and I had to use up all the sauce when I was eating it, so it could have been better.
Shrimp and Mahi Mahi Tempura: Lightly coated in tempura batter, fried golden and served with stir-fried vegetables and chili-lime plum sauce. This is a shared dish and I tried a bit. The tempura was not like the typical Japanese flaky type, it was closer to breading. It was so so.
Rice Biryani: Delicately flavored with saffron and spices, served with pappadams and tangy raita. Kitty's choice, and I don't remember how it tasted. I know that sometimes when the biryani is crunchy, I find it too hard.
Key Lime Pie: Tangy, creamy custard with the distinctive flavour key lime nestled in a flaky pie crust. This was a lighter dessert, that tasted limey, but I've had better.
Chocolate Brownie Sandwich: A dark bittersweet chocolate mousse wedged between layers of rich chocolate brownie. This is exactly like the ones they have on the promenade.
Banana and Crunchy nut Parfait: Creamy, frozen banana custard in layers of luscious whipped cream finished with caramel-fudge sauce, almonds and macadamia nuts. This was a unique dessert that had a light texture. It wasn't very sweet despite the caramel.
